Former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick owes hundreds of thousands of dollars in unpaid income taxes, according to the Internal Revenue Service.
Public records from Georgia, obtained by The Detroit News, show Kilpatrick owes more than $634,000 in unpaid taxes from the time he lived a lifestyle funded by bribes.
The IRS alleges the unpaid taxes are for the years 2003 to 2008, during which Kilpatrick was Detroit’s mayor.
Kilpatrick resigned as Detroit’s mayor in 2008, after he was convicted of perjury and obstruction of justice. In 2013, he was convicted on 24 federal felony counts, including mail fraud and racketeering, and sentenced to 28 years in federal prison. Evidence from the case showed that Kilpatrick rigged city bids and collected $840,000 in bribes.
President Donald Trump commuted Kilpatrick’s sentence in January 2021. Kilpatrick then moved to Georgia to open a ministry.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][us_image image=”977″][/vc_column][/vc_row]
