CANADIAN TRIED TO COLLECT FRAUDULENT TAX REFUND

A Canadian national pleaded guilty to making false statements on income tax returns.

 According to court records, William Henry Woo, 66, earned income in the United States from gambling at casinos.

 Woo submitted fraudulent tax claims seeking approximately $5.4 million by falsely over-reporting the tax withheld by the casinos. Woo fraudulently obtained more than $1 million in tax refunds from the Department of Treasury.

 Woo faces up to three years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
