OWNER OF LANDSCAPE COMPANY FACES UP TO 60 MONTHS

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]A North Carolina woman pleaded guilty to failing to pay over employment taxes withheld from employee paychecks to the federal government.

According to court records, Sharon Coker Burke, of Garner, North Carolina, co-owned and managed the tax and financial affairs of Bear Creek Landscape Associates, a commercial landscaping business.

Between 2003 and 2021, Burke routinely failed to pay over the withheld taxes to the IRS, resulting in a tax underpayment of more than $800,000.

After the IRS attempted to collected the tax debt, Bear Creek changed its name twice. But under Burke, the successor companies continued to accrue tax liabilities and debt.
