Three Men Charged In Refund Conspiracy

Three Ohio men were indicted for a conspiracy to submit false tax refunds for fictitious businesses.

Brandon R. Mace, 43, of Youngstown; Terris Chanley Baker, 49, of Canton; and Robert J. Rohrbaugh II, 46, of Youngstown were charged with conspiracy, aiding and abetting theft of government property, aiding and abetting false claims against the United States and conspiracy to commit money laundering.

From March 2015 to April 2016, the men conspired to submit fraudulent federal income tax returns in the names of various fictitious entities to the IRS in order to obtain tax refunds for the enrichment of themselves and others.

On one occasion, the men were successful in obtaining a refund check for a fictitious business in the amount of more than $1.35 million.

After obtaining the refund, the men attempted to launder the money by purchasing high-end vehicles.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
