MAN GETS 310 DAYS IN PRISON IN TAX CASE

An Illinois man was sentenced to 310 days in prison for willful failure to file income tax returns.

Charles Stoutt, 39, of East Moline, Illinois, was also ordered to pay $181,033 in restitution to the IRS. Stoutt owned a furniture delivery business, which generated substantial income from 2016 through 2020. Nonetheless, Stoutt failed to file tax returns for the tax years 2016 through 2020.

As a result, Stoutt failed to pay approximately $181,033 in taxes owed.

“We all suffer the consequences of those who choose to evade their tax obligation,” U.S. Attorney Gregory K. Harris said in a statement. “The Department of Justice will continue to seek out and prosecute those individuals who cheat.”
