Businessman Pleads Guilty In Tax Case

The vice president of two Rhode Island businesses pleaded guilty to charges that he allegedly failed to turn over to the IRS more than $1 million in federal payroll taxes, including Medicare and Social Security taxes withheld from employees’ paychecks.

 According to court records, Mark Carlson was vice president of American Pride Insulation and Atlantic Abatement Construction, as well as a manager of finances for the Leo Byrnes Trust. Carlson failed to collect, truthfully account for, and turn over payroll taxes from the three entities.

 In total, Carlson is alleged to have failed to turn over more than $1 million to the IRS.
